Fasilat Olasumbo is a dedicated and compassionate board- certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with a Master of Science in Nursing. She is committed to providing comprehensive, compassionate, evidence-based, holistic mental health care to patients across the lifespan. With a deep understanding of the complexities of mental wellness, Fasilat Olasumbo employs a patient-centered approach, fostering a therapeutic environment built on trust, empathy, and collaboration. With a specialization in diagnosing and managing mood disorders, ADHD, PTST, OCD, depression, anxiety, and other mental health concerns, my goal is to help you navigate life's challenges with confidence and resilience.
Fasilat believes that effective mental healthcare cannot be separated from an understanding of the whole person—including their physical health, life experiences, and personal story. She treats patients by combining rigorous medical knowledge with a deep, personal commitment to their overall well-being. Her goal is to partner with patients to create a personalized treatment plan that addresses not only patient symptoms but also patient strengths and goals for a healthier, more fulfilling life. This philosophy is rooted in her diverse nursing background, which has given her a unique window into the intricate relationship between our physical and mental well-being. Her path to becoming a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner has been deeply informed by over a decade of hands-on nursing experience across the full spectrum of human health.
Her early career in acute and long-term care, particularly within memory units, taught her the profound connection between the body and the mind. Working with individuals managing complex conditions like dementia, Alzheimer's, schizophrenia, paranoia, diabetes, CHF and aging showed her that true healing requires an integrated approach. She learned the critical importance of patience, empathy, and dignity, especially when helping individuals and families navigate some of life's most challenging moments.
Later, at a youth services correctional center, Fasilat supported adolescents facing significant behavioral and mental health challenges, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and substance use. In that high-stakes environment, she saw firsthand how early, compassionate, and evidence-based intervention could be a powerful catalyst for change. It solidified her belief in building trust and providing a non-judgmental space for even the most vulnerable populations to feel heard and understood.
Outside her professional practice, she’s a devoted wife and mother of three. Her personal time is enriched by her family, and she’s often found supporting her children in their various activities, including her daughter's gymnastics and son’s soccer games, to ensure they have the support they need to thrive. This experience as a parent deeply informs her practice, enhancing her ability to connect with and understand the families she serves.
